Everyone knows I prefer long-sleeved shirts over t-shirts. I find them to be versatile as I can dress them up with a tie and a sport coat or down by rolling up sleeves and leaving the top button unfastened. But there are times when you simply just want to dress down during the weekend but still look classy. When I tried on the Saint James Nautical T-Shirt from Kapok I knew I just had to have it. It was more than what I usually pay for a t-shirt at HKD 440 (PHP 2,420 at PHP 5.5 to the HKD).
The shirt fits well without being too close to the body and the shoulders are perched right. The Breton stripes don’t make me look larger than I should be. The combed cotton is soft and smooth to the touch. It has a boat neck that opens up wide and does not hug your neck tight–perfect for warm weather.
Saint James has been making these t-shirts in France since 1889. The production has been kept inside the country and this gives their products authenticity. They’ve expanded to creating other items of clothing but this is the product they’re known for.
These t-shirts are so versatile they can be worn with almost anything. They look great with shorts but can also be worn with chinos and jeans. For shoes you can never go wrong with boat shoes but white canvas sneakers are my favorite option. You can also opt to dress it up with a navy blazer.
Thanks to my sister for providing this photo of my mom and I. Taken at the Museum Café in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.
The Saint James Nautical T-Shirt is available at Kapok. Kapok is located at G/F St. Francis Yard, Wanchai, Hong Kong. Their second shop with a café is located on Sun Street behind their first location. If you’re taking the MTR, get off Wanchai station and take the A3 exit. Walk west along Johnston Road until you reach Gresson Street and go up St. Francis Street.
